Bought a New Laptop!

I just bought a new laptop. Needless to say, I can’t manage to keep my hands off it; neither could I curb the desire to blog about it here.

It’s a SAMSUNG notebook powered by Intel Core i5, 3GB Memory, 500GB Hard Disk, HD LED Display and so on. I am working on a review of it and will probably publish it on PC Geek by the end of this month.

WP.com flashes Adverts on my Blog & I can’t do anything about it!

I’ve been using WordPress.com for over a year and I must admit that it’s my favorite blogging platform although it has its share of shortcomings. Recently, there’s been a rise in the amount of advertisements WordPress shows in my blog and this made me feel very disappointed.

WordPress had already stated in its terms that it reserves the right to flash ‘occasional’ Google ads in the WP Hosted free blogs. But, the flashing of adverts is not ‘occasional’ anymore. I am a firm believer of bloggers getting paid for their efforts and I also believe that WordPress deserves to monetize our blogs for the excellent platform they provide. So, keeping in mind all these factors – WordPress should consider sharing the AdSense revenue to bloggers who have a blog with a decent amount of traffic. It can be 50:50 or 60:40, but giving a share to the bloggers who produce the content sounds fair to me.

Though, WordPress doesn’t share revenue with the bloggers there’s something good out of this. You can’t find perverts who just insert advertisements into the blog just to earn money. WordPress.com bloggers are a lot better than the ones you usually find on the Blogspot hosted ones.

What do you feel?

P.S I own a Blogspot blog myself for two reasons - It’s easy to monetize & I don’t have to pay for hosting my custom domain.

Tom Merritt Conversed with me!

I shouldn’t be getting so excited about it. But I guess I can’t help it. My favorite tech journalist Tom Merritt (Remember the CNET TV Shows?) spoke to me on Twitter after I left a casual comment saying that his CNET Top 5 Countdown was better than the ones he’s currently doing for revisions3. He got back to me asking why I felt that way and then thanked me for my feedback. It always feels so nice when celebrities get in touch with you on Twitter esp. the ones like Tom Merritt.

and yes, this is the occasional post to say that I still haven’t forgotten this blog.

Kittens for Adoption

Is this Culture?

This post might not get towards anything. I am writing it in great disappointment. Pardon me if I sounded weird and lethargic.

I read in the paper yesterday ‘Parents put up their Girl child to an adoption – says the reason for giving the kid to adoption was the gender’.

I cannot wholly blame these parents now. What they have done is a pressure mounting on them from the hierarchy of the Indian Society. A girl kid is always seen as a burden for the family, since men have to be paid (dowry) to marry beautiful women! (Well, that’s India for you!) and yet we flaunt that Indian culture is always better than western culture. Paradoxical, isn’t it?

At times, I think that the entire system in our country is lame. Times change, Human beings evolve (remember Darwin?) but, we still follow traditions that fail to value human life. If women got the respect just like men do will there be parents who put them up for adoption or will there be infanticide?

My New Tech Blog

I have now started my new full-time tech blog called PC Geek. It’s hosted using the Blogspot platform and I have already made a couple of posts in it. I haven’t got my own domain now, but, I am planning to get one if PC Geek does well. With this post, I am waving good-bye to this blog which had long been my online identity. I will have to tell you that I am not going to delete this blog, I’ll try my best use it as my journal while PC geek will remain as my primary Weblog. I’ve got a pretty crappy tagline, If you’ve got ideas for it, let me know – (I’ll include your idea and will credit you suitably).

I have decided that once this blog starts earning for me, I will be donating 10% of the total income to Amity Ministry (An NGO I am closely associated with). (Sounds good, right? Why don’t you head right away and click some ads. LOL!)
